New phones get launched each month of the year, but it looks like the October 2018 smartphones are going to be approximately different. Not only have we sighted six major launches in the span of only a few weeks, but some of those devices are the most highly expected releases of the full year.
The biggest announcement of them all is clearly the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL, but we’ve also got some heavy hitters from OnePlus, LG, Samsung, and more. These launches are not only for smartphones: the proceedings will also likely be launching pads for fittings and other products.
All of these companies are wanting that by releasing devices in October they’ll have an improved shot at receiving your holiday shopping money. If you plan on expenditure some cash on smartphones or smart equipment in the next few months, you’ll want to go into October with a good idea of what to imagine. With the list below, you can get the essentials of what October 2018 smartphones are on the way and make accordingly!
October 3 — LG V40 ThinQ
LG launched the LG V40 ThinQ on October 3. The V40 ThinQ remains the trends of LG’s V-series phones with its ultra-premium features, counting a triple-lensed rear camera, a 32-bit DAC (with a headphone jack), two front-facing lenses for super selfies, and more.
The LG V40 ThinQ specs contain the predictable flagship details: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 6GB of RAM, 64 or 128GB of internal storing, IP68 certification, and a 6.4-inch OLED display.
All those best features come at a price, though: the LG V40 ThinQ will start at $900 at some shippers and go as high as $980 at others. That doesn’t make it the most luxurious phone of the year or anything but positive isn’t easy on the wallet, either.
We spent some time with the LG V40 ThinQ and found it to be an extremely capable handset with some killer features. However, we felt it had deprived battery life, a weak camera seeing how many lenses are obtainable, and of course — that high price was hard to swallow.
October 4 — Nokia 7.1 (Rumored)
HMD Global just sent out invitations for an October 4 Nokia occasion, but it’s not clear what the company has in stock for us. It is slightly conceivable that it could finally reveal the long-awaited Nokia 9 with its rumored five rear cameras.
However, it’s far more probable that Nokia will bring us the Nokia 7.1, the advanced version of last year’s mid-range Nokia 7. We’ve previously got some leaked info on the device, including some images which you can see above.
It’s rumored that the Nokia 7.1 will feature Android One, which will mean a stock-like Android knowledge as well as (hopefully) very fast updates. Since the Nokia 7 Plus was a fragment of the Android One program, that would surely make sense.
Of all the releases on this list, this is the one we know the smallest about. Stay tuned for October 4 to see what HMD Global has in mind!
October 9 — Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL
Of all the devices on this list, none has had more of a rollercoaster drive this year than the Google Pixel 3 XL. Months before the arranged unveiling of the latest flagship from Google, a black-market seller hocked off dozens of prototype versions of the Pixel 3 XL, letting the world see attractive much the whole thing there is about the device.
However, the vanilla Google Pixel 3 still has a bit of unidentified to it, as prototypes don’t seem to have leaked closely as badly as the 3 XL.
That all being said, the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL will likely feature the best camera in the industry, if we shoulder that it only recovers on the industry-best camera on the Google Pixel 2. It will also likely feature the latest flagship specs, counting a Snapdragon 845, and will most likely finally bring wireless accusing to the Pixel line.
Along with the Pixel 3, Google is predictable to launch an innovative smart display and 2-in-1 touchscreen Chromebook. The company could have some more amazements up its sleeve as well, but we’ll have to wait until October 9 to find out.
October 10 — Razer Phone 2
The innovative Razer Phone launched to much fanfare in 2017 as the first smartphone geared precisely towards gamers for gaming. Since then, other companies have either launched or said they will present their own gaming phones, but the Razer Phone is absolutely the OG when it comes to the modern gaming phone trend.
All in all, the Razer Phone was a solid piece of hardware, with some unbelievable specs (hello, 8GB of RAM!) and a more-than-reasonable price. However, reviews were tepid for the phone, mainly due to its terrible camera (which Razer has since made much improved through software updates).
From what we recognize so far, the Razer Phone 2 is going to be a small tweak of the Razer Phone formula and not a wild renovation. In fact, the leaked images we’ve seen show a device that looks nearly indistinguishable to the original Razer Phone. If you look up upstairs, a leaked render of the Razer Phone 2 is on the right and the original Razer Phone is on the left. Look fast and you likely would think they are precisely the same.
One of the better changes to the device will likely be the outline of Razer Chroma lighting effects to the smartphone. It’s not yet completely clear how Chroma will be combined into the phone, but it will certainly make Razer fans contented to see one of the company’s most characteristic features come to the gaming phone.
October 11 — Samsung Galaxy A device(s)
We know for convinced that Samsung will present at least one smartphone on October 11, but we don’t really distinguish which one. The Samsung Galaxy A7 which is evoked upstairs just got unveiled, but Samsung may use the October 11 event to launch it in more countries.
However, the declaration of the October 11 event heavily recommended that Samsung is unveiling a smartphone with four cameras — and the Galaxy A7 (2018) has three rear sensors, not four. It could be that Samsung is including the front-facing camera as well, which would propose that it meant the 2018 A7.
Potentially still, it might be that Samsung is launching one more device on October 11 in tandem with the 2018 A7. We don’t distinguish for sure.
Either way, the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) is looking like one of the most exciting mid-range devices the company’s out in this year. The triple camera setup is clearly exciting (especially for a Samsung mid-ranger) and Samsung’s assurance to no-notch displays will make the A7 a hot product for people who want a sensibly priced, notchless phone with great photo abilities.
October 16 — Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro was our favorite smartphone of 2017, and from the way things are determining up, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro could be a major candidate for the 2018 prize.
We’ve seen a few leaks of the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro previously, but not nearly as numerous as we’ve seen for the Google Pixel 3 XL. As such, we know fairly a bit about the phone, but there’s still a lot of mystery.
That being said, we do have some decent info about the features of the Mate 20 line, most notably the predictable launch of the Kirin 980 processor, which will be the first 7-nanometer chipset in an Android device. This could possibly make the Mate 20 the fastest and most power-efficient Android phone on the market when it launches on October 16, as all the other flagships on this list are predictable to ship with 10nm chips.
The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are also predictable to have triple rear cameras, like the Huawei P20 Pro. Huawei has been playful the alleged square arrangement of the camera lenses and flashes for a bit now.
We also are justly certain that the Mate 20 will feature wireless accusing, which is great since the Mate 10 has a glass back but inquisitively didn’t comprise the feature. We also doubtful that you’ll be able to use the Mate 20 to wirelessly charge other devices, like the upcoming Huawei Freebuds 2 Pro.
October 17 (Rumored) — OnePlus 6T
To be clear, we are not 100 percent convinced that the OnePlus 6T will launch on October 17, but we have leaked indication to suggest that that is the date, and we are absolutely certain that the device will present at some point in October 2018.
The OnePlus 6 is one of the most effective devices in the company’s history, selling a million units faster than any preceding device as well as being the top-selling device in India for a time. The OnePlus 6T will likely be another huge victory for the company, as it will familiarize some new features (most notably an in-display fingerprint sensor) and — for the first time eternally — launch in T-Mobile stores in the United States.
However, OnePlus fans were discouraged to find out that the OnePlus 6T will not have a headphone jack. OnePlus is one of the few companies that detained onto the jack for a long while, even stating on stage during the OnePlus 6 launch that it still trusts in the jack.
No matter what, the OnePlus 6T is determining up to be one of the most exciting smartphones of the year, which is especially striking when you see the other brand names on this list.
