OnePlus 6T to derived sans 3.5mm headphone jack; OnePlus aims for better-quality battery life

OnePlus has confirmed that it will remove the much prized 3.5mm headphone jack from its imminent flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6T. The company delivered an announcement adding that it feels that “now is the right time” to remove this feature. OnePlus trusts that this move will prove to be valuable for a “majority” of its users while keeping the disadvantages at check. Carl Pei, the co-founder of the company clarified that the company is not removing the 3.5mm headphone jack just “for the sake of” it to follow what other smartphone makers are doing.

The company self-confessed that it “knew” that “this was an option”, and the company was only waiting “for the right time” to remove this feature while talking to TechRadar. Pei noted that removing the 3.5mm jack will allow the company to add “more new technology” in the next smartphone that OnePlus will launch in the market. Referring to the “new technology”, we previously know that the company is preparing to add an in-display fingerprint scanner in the upcoming device. In adding to the in-display fingerprint scanner, Pei pointed out that OnePlus is planning to recover the battery backup by a “substantial” margin in the imminent devices of the company.

Pei noted that it will ship a 3.5mm headphone jack to Type-C adapter lengthways with the device so that users can use their present pair of headphones. The company is also working on a new-fangled version of its Bullet V2 headphones that will use USB Type-C instead of the usual 3.5mm audio jack. The company is previously selling its Bullets Wireless headphones in the market for users who would want a wireless answer.

One thing to note here is that Pei does not reference “OnePlus 6T” by the name, and keeps the discussion to the next headset by the company. The report noted that OnePlus is conscious of the possible backlash from its fans, but Pei trusts that they “will be more forgiving” when they consider the larger picture.
