Motorola RAZR :could coming back with foldable display, suggests patent

Latest new Motorola has departed through various changes and even many owners, but throughout its history, perhaps only one phone has continued an icon and an example of its glory days: the RAZR. Even Motorola was intensely aware of this to the point that it tried to ride on that nostalgia for the slim clamshell to no advantage. It doesn’t seem to have assumed up on the dream of reviving the beloved phone and, at least based on a new obvious, it might introduce a certain turn. Or rather, a fold.

Some OEMs are scrambling to be the main to right the foldable phone title. Samsung and Huawei are allegedly neck-to-neck in that race while others are taking their period. They are, however, preparing by accretion patents to cover their legal bases. Fortunately, those patents are subject to public inspection, giving us an idea of what they strength have in mind.

Definitely, it’s not named the RAZR but if Motorola succeeds to pull this project off, it might as well be RAZR 2.0 (technically 3 or 4 by now). We’ve seen our fill of foldable phone patents but, definitely, this one is odd, though not completely in a good way. Moto new mobile feature a clamshell design with a single screen that folds in the middle. However, there are real laptop-like hinges that connect what is two halves of a whole.

The hinge strength solves one of the designs and engineering problems with shades that fold in, like a book or a clamshell. They can’t fold flat and you’ll want to have some open space where the screen folds. That patent disinterred by Mobielkopen does hint at that, though it will consent a gaping hole at one end of the folded device.

Of course, these are just patents, and only a segment of patents ever become used in actual products. Still, Motorola’s parental company Lenovo was one of the primary to demonstrate a definite working foldable tablet, which it at least proposes Motorola is just as close to making it actual as Samsung or Huawei.
